Ex NFL Player Chris Smith Dies at 31, Twitter Pays Tributes

Chris Smith, an NFL star from multiple teams during his career and who died aged 31 has passed away at his agent confirmed the news of his passing. His funeral services will take place today.

Former NFL star Chris Smith dies at 31

Drew Rosenhaus, Smith’s agent announced the sad news via a tweet posted on April 18th. He posted a picture with “Rest in Peace Chris”. All his family, friends and loved ones have sent their condolences; unfortunately the cause of Chris’s passing remains unidentified.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of Chris Smith’s death as former Cleveland Browns DE. Chris was always kind, welcoming, and supportive – truly an asset in our organization.” Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this difficult time.

Smith played in eight NFL seasons

Chris Smith played college soccer. Jacksonville Jaguars were his initial NFL team. Three years later he joined Cincinnati Bengals; shortly thereafter they signed him on as their starter before finally coming back home and signing a three-year contract with Cleveland Browns in March 2019.

Smith played for the Carolina Panthers, Las Vegas Raiders and Baltimore Ravens. In his eight-year NFL career, he played 72 games and recorded 80 tackles and eleven sacks. He signed a contract with the Seattle Sea Dragons last month for the 2023 XFL and played in four games.

In 2019, the player was also hit with a terrible personal tragedy when his girlfriend Petara Cordero died after she was struck by a vehicle. The accident occurred as she was exiting the vehicle Smith had been driving. They had just welcomed a daughter a few weeks before the tragic accident.

Social media flooded with tributes

Smith’s fans and friends have shown their sorrow at his passing. Tony Khan, president of All Elite Wrestling tweeted: “Rest In Peace Chris Smith.” Chris Smith joined the Jaguars three years ago in 2014. He was an excellent teammate and a friend.”

He suffered a tragic death in 2019, when Petara, the mother of his child and his girlfriend, died in a car accident. “I hope they are reunited in Heaven,” added Smith. David Njoku, Smith’s ex-teammate, tweeted: “Rest in paradise Chris Smith.” Hometown hero, and brother to all. What a kind-hearted soul. “This is heartbreaking.”

Myles Garrett of the Browns All-Pro defense also expressed his shock, saying, “Chris is one of kindest players and persons I have ever met.” He would have given you his shirt to you. “It’s difficult to know that people like this can disappear at any moment.”
